Happy New Year, Church!

Today is the first Sunday in Advent which means that we have entered into a new liturgical year in the life of the church. Advent is a time of preparation. We prepare for the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child, yes. But it is also a time when we prepare ourselves for the return of Jesus as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But we don’t fret about the “end times.” Jesus told us that even he doesn’t know when that will happen.

Today, we begin a series, “God is in the Manger.” Our scriptures are Isaiah 2:1-5,  Psalm 122, and Mark 13:24-37. The title is from a collection of Advent and Christmas reflections written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Throughout Advent we will retell the story that leads to Bethlehem. We hope that you will join us as we hear the story once again.
