Listen to Him!

Matthew 17:1-9 describes what is celebrated as the Transfiguration of Jesus. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John to a mountaintop. While they are there, Jesus is surrounded by a bright light and is joined by Moses and Elijah. The disciples are amazed and a voice calls out, “This is my Son whom I dearly love. I am very pleased with him. Listen to him! (Matthew 17:5b, Common English Bible)” Join Pastor Wayne as he shares what it means to listen to…

God Gives the Growth

“I planted. Apollos watered. But God gives the growth.” God makes ministry and spiritual growth happen… sometimes (alright, most of the time) in spite of us. Join us for this look at 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 as Pastor Wayne completes this sermon series: Somos del Señor, We Belong to God.“

With a Demonstration

Living our faith in relationship to Jesus Christ. That is how we demonstrate that Jesus is more than a concept to us. It’s the real thing… no doubt about it. Join us as Pastor Wayne explores 1 Corinthians 2:1-16 and the concept of living out our faith in a way that makes other folks want what we have… a relationship to the living “Christ and him crucified.”

Consider Your Call

“Consider your own call, brothers and sisters…” This is the advice that Paul gave to the church at Corinth. It is the advice that he gives to us today. The cross of Christ is foolishness to a world that is hung up on status and prestige, but to a follower of Jesus it is the source of strength and power as we are enabled to transform the world in which we live and love.

Same Mind & Same Purpose

Division. It’s been a problem from the very beginning. Factions and allegiances take center stage when Jesus should be our focus… not my focus, but our focus. All of us. Together. In today’s scripture reading, 1 Corinthians 1:10-18, Paul urges the church at Corinth to be of the same mind and the same purpose and not let division rule the day.

You Are Not Lacking

Paul’s first letter to the church at Corinth is written to a church that is struggling with division. In the lectionary text for today (1 Corinthians 1:1-9), Pastor Wayne reviews how Paul reminds the people who he is and whose they are. This marks the beginning of our sermon series, “Somos del Señor – We belong to God” that will take us through to February 16. Please note: we apologize for the hum in the background that is affecting the…

By Water and the Spirit

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17, NRSV) Baptism… being adopted into the family of God, the family where Christ is our brother and we are beloved children. This morning we come to the waters to remember our baptism. We come to remember the promises that we made in our vows before God at baptism or at confirmation.

Three Kings and a Savior

In today’s sermon, Pastor Wayne looks at the Epiphany text: Matthew 2:1-12. What  did the “three kings of (the) orient” see that the Jewish people who were desperately looking for a Messiah miss? How do we miss seeing the Savior in our midst?

So Now What?

During Advent, we asked “are we there yet?” as we journeyed toward the incarnation. Today we continue to ask the question. Christ has come. Herod was frightened and children died. Our call today is to care for each other. Following Christ is a lifelong journey. We may come close to the end, but do we ever get there?

Learning to Trust in the Journey

We continue with the Advent sermon series “Are We There Yet?” on this Fourth Sunday of Advent. This week, Pastor Wayne talks about the theme of trust that we find in our Scriptures for the day and in the overarching narrative of the Incarnation story. Come and listen as he describes the trust that Mary and Joseph had in God as they moved from faith to trust. What obstacles do we face as we make our own move from faith…
