One of the perils of preparing sermon series in advance is that while you may stay within the scripture that you have chosen, the focus of your scripture may change. That is the case with our scripture this morning, 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5. My original intent was to focus on the folks with “itching ears” who would lean away from sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Yet, as I worked on the sermon, I found myself drawn to deal with 2 Timothy 3:16a, “all scripture is inspired by God,” the scripture that is the mother of all proof texts.
Join us as we explore this text and put it into the context of Paul’s instruction to Timothy. Join us as we ultimately remember that the Word of God is NOT the Bible, but it is the person of Jesus Christ. As John 1 reminds us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God… and the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.”
