Creation Waits

Creation Waits

“Creation Waits” is the sermon this morning as we continue our series “Nothing Shall Separate Us.” This series takes us on a deep look at Romans 8. This morning, our focus is found in Romans 8:12-25 with the title’s focus on Romans 8:19.

Basically, we are all in this together.  We are part of God’s creation… God’s good creation. Our task is to be the caretakers of God’s creation. Paul’s emphasis throughout the letter to the church in Rome challenges the American Exceptionalism that is exemplified in the idea that we are to “pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps,” Instead, when we take on the mind of Christ (see last week’s sermon), we take on the concerns of God: the care of widows and orphans, engaging with the poor and marginalized, seeking justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with our God. We need each other, we thrive together, and that very idea goes against our current culture. Perhaps, our notions are due for a reset. Perhaps, if we are to be an active part in the coming of God’s kin-dom, then maybe we need to reevaluate some of our ideas and see how they align with God’s calling.
