Jesus tells us the rules. But as Chef Emeril Legasse would say, he “kicks it up a notch.” His point was that no matter how hard we try, we can never live up to the letter of the law. So we need to stop acting as if it is up to us.
God is not some monster looking for every opportunity to smite us for the mildest transgression. God is like the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son. Seeking relationship and reconciliation at all costs.
