February Update

It’s hard to believe that we are already into February! The year is already off to a fast paced start. I want to take a moment to update you on some things that are happening at the church and in our online presence as we move forward. We have passed the half-way point of our sermon series for the Season after the Epiphany, Somos del Señor (We Belong to God), which will conclude on February 16. In this lectionary based series…

Special Offering for Sudan Ministry

The Holston Annual Conference has been intimately involved with ministry in South Sudan since around 2006. We have been there through thick and thin in all that time while impacting lives there in innumerable ways.  Since 2016, our ministries have been in exile in Uganda. But even in exile, orphans have been cared for and educated, pastors have been equipped and encouraged, and the Gospel has been shared in the midst of trying circumstances. On Sunday, February 16, we will…

Closing Out 2019

Hey McFarland! Pastor Wayne here. Can you believe that there are only a little less than 2 days left until the end of the decade? Where has the time gone? Are We There Yet?

This has been the theme of our Advent sermon series this year. We’re looking at Advent as a journey. The journey has many twists and turns but the destination is the manger in Bethlehem. It isn’t a final destination, but it gives us a chance to reflect upon the idea that God loves us enough to have become one of us… sharing our flesh and blood… sharing our pain and our sorrow… and sharing our joys so that our relationship…

Advent 2019

Happy New Year, y’all! December 1, 2019 marks the beginning of a new year in the church liturgical calendar. It is a time of anticipation, not necessarily for the birth of a baby in a manger, but of the coming of a king to bring about God’s kingdom of peace in a world that knows no peace. Contrary to what the secular world expects in this world of “Black Friday” and the search for the most “stuff” at the least…

September Update

I wish that I could say that fall is in the air, that the leaves are beginning to turn and the temperatures are beginning to cool. I wish that I could say that. However, as I write this, the temperature is 90 degrees and Hurricane Dorian has finally begun to move after sitting over the Bahamas for several days wreaking unimaginable destruction to the islands. As we move into September, we start a long sermon series that I am calling…
