Update April 6, 2024

Hello McFarland! Pastor Wayne here!

The effect of Easter continues. It is not just one day, it is an event that changed everything! This Sunday, April 7, we begin a three week series, How Shall We Live, that will look at the letter of 1 John for inspiration. We will come together around the table to be strengthened and nourished as we seek to walk in the light… not just as individuals, but as a community of faith. I hope that you will plan to join us in worship at 11:00 a.m.

You are invited to attend a briefing session on General Conference that will take place at Ooltewah United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 7 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Members of the Holston delegation will be there to answer questions. All are welcome.

Annual Conference is approaching quickly. As you know, there are a couple of collections that coincide with the Annual Conference session:

  • First, there is the monetary offering. This year’s focus is the New Voices initiative. New Voices is an ambitious goal to raise $1.5 million dollars to support our Conference Camps, Wesley Foundations, and Conference Universities. Yes, it is an ambitious goal, but if every active member of Holston Conference churches just gave $30 we would meet this goal.
  • Second, is our Hands On Mission Collection. This year, we are collecting food buckets for our mission partners in Liberia. You are welcome to collect the items for the buckets, lists are available in a bulletin insert at church and will be shared on Facebook. We are also offering the option of the church purchasing the items. If you go through the church, the cost will be $50 per bucket. We ask that you fill out the form found at so that we can make plans to purchase the items. On the form you can indicate that you will pay by check (we must receive all checks by May 20) or you can pay by credit/debit card or electronic check. Any excess funds will go to support our food ministry here at McFarland.

The upcoming Annual Conference means that my time with you will be coming to an end as I retire. My last Sunday will be June 16. Don’t be surprised to see that there will be increased meeting activity of the leadership teams as they prepare for the coming of a new pastor. There will be more information as it becomes available.

See you in worship!

Pastor Wayne
