Hey McFarland! Pastor Wayne here!
I first met the Rev. Woody Woodin when we were in the Course of Study together at Emory University in Atlanta. He and his wife Kim have been good friends through the years. Woody currently serves as the Executive Director of the Upper Sand Mountain Parish, a mission ministry of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church located in Sylvania, Alabama, about an hour southeast of Chattanooga. For 50 years, the Upper Sand Mountain Parish (USMP) has ministered to the needs of the Sand Mountain communities in Jackson and Dekalb counties of Alabama.
On Sunday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m., McFarland UMC will host Woody, his wife Kim, and a praise band representing the Upper Sand Mountain Parish for a night of celebration, worship, fellowship, and information in our Sanctuary. During the evening, Woody will share with us about the mission and ministry of the USMP and how we can be involved with this ministry located in our own backyard.
To make this a true celebration, I have invited the churches of the Scenic South District, the Hamilton County and Cleveland churches in the Hiwassee District, and the Walker County and Catoosa County Churches of the North Georgia Conference to join us. This has the potential to be a big event for us here at McFarland. As we move closer to the event, I will be asking for volunteers to help with the event. We will need some folks to help with hospitality that evening as greeters and folks who can prepare some sandwiches for the folks from the Parish. I ask you to keep this event in your prayers as we continue planning for this time of celebration.
Save the date: Sunday, September 12, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. For more information on the Upper Sand Mountain Parish, visit their website at https://www.uppersandmountainparish.com
