Update October 22, 2020

Hello McFarland! Pastor Wayne here. If you’re like me, you find it difficult to believe that we are almost at the end of the year, yet, here we are. As of right now, we have been back together in worship since October 11. We continue with online and offline worship options as we continue to navigate the course of COVID-19. Let me share with you that in the time of the COVID shutdown, we have maintained an online worship presence…

Update September 24, 2020

It’s been a while since I have communicated with you in this format. It seems that so much of what we have shared has been on Facebook or in email conversations. But now, there are a lot of things to communicate with you as this month of September comes to a close, so let me get started. We have received approval from our District Superintendent to resume in-person worship pending the completion of a couple of items that we need…

Update July-22-2020

It’s hard to believe that as I write this it has been 19 weeks since we have worshipped together in person in our building. It feels as if it has been longer than that. We’ve had some bumpy starts and stops with ZOOM meetings and gatherings, but we haven’t found the right mix of technology that everyone can adopt. So, I thought that I would provide a quick update on several things that we are doing during this time that…

Planning for Re-opening

Dear McFarland Family, We have received instructions from the Bishop regarding the steps that we need to take in order to prepare a plan to re-open the church for in-person worship. The plan that we create will need to be approved by the District Superintendent based upon a number of factors including the statistics regarding the COVID infection rate in our area.  The first step in the process is the formation of a team to create our plan. That team…

Summer 2020 Book Club Opportunity

Hey McFarland! Pastor Wayne here. I am excited about a Summer Book Club reading opportunity that is being made available through the folks at Seedbed, the folks who supply our daily devotional that is found at the bottom of our webpage. Seedbed is a ministry of Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. The summer book club is reading Jack Deere’s new book, Why I Am Still Surprised by the Power of the Spirit, an update of his 1993 book, Surprised by the…

May 20 Update

Hello McFarland! It’s hard to believe that June is almost here and, as I write this newsletter article, we are still getting used to not worshipping together. I think that it will be a while before we can worship together in person. In the meantime, we are providing videos of our pared down worship service on our Facebook page at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday and on our website (https://mcfarlandumc.org/sermons/) later Sunday afternoon. Video streaming of our worship service will continue…

April 30, 2020 Update

In an effort to provide better communication to those of you who do not participate on FaceBook, here is the latest update on what we know so far. This Sunday will mark the 8th week of online worship as our building continues to remain closed. No matter what Governor Kemp or Governor Lee says, Bishop Taylor on Tuesday evening informed us that we will remain closed until further notice. The Bishop in consultation with the Cabinet (our District Superintendents) is…

April 23, 2020 Update

It’s hard to believe that I haven’t communicated with you here on the website since Good Friday, especially since I have communicated with you via FaceBook. We have not been together in worship in-person since March 8. This means that we have been stumbling through online worship for the past 6 weeks with who knows how many more weeks there are to come. No matter what Governor Kemp says, Bishop Taylor is indicating that we stay closed for the time…

Good Friday 2020

On this Good Friday in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am pleased to share with you a Stations of the Cross video worship prepared by friends at First United Methodist Church, Jackson, Tennessee. The Reverend Sky McCracken is their pastor. I hope that this will enhance your worship on this Good Friday and be a blessing to you..
